Bhubaneswar: Former Team India captain Sourav Ganguly’s brother and sister-in-law were swept away in the sea in Puri when a speedboat capsized during a water sports activity. Fortunately, both were rescued by private lifeguards. There were four tourists on the speedboat.
The incident occurred on Saturday, but it didn’t come to light immediately. It was only later, after Ganguly’s family received information about it on social media, that the incident gained attention. Ganguly’s brother-in-law was rescued safely by the lifeguards.
Arpita Ganguly, Sourav Ganguly’s sister-in-law, said, “The sea condition was very rough, and we were reluctant to enter the sea with a boat that has a capacity of ten. We were only four. Despite our reluctance, the boat owners persuaded us for the sake of money and took us inside. A high tide came, and the boat overturned due to the low weight of only four passengers. Immediately, the lifeguards swung into action and dragged me to shore. I am in shock now.”
The prompt action of the lifeguards prevented what could have been a major tragedy.
