Pipili (Puri): In a shocking incident in Sahajpur village under Pipili police station limits in Puri district, a differently-abled young woman was subjected to sexual assault followed by an attempt on her life.

The incident occurred around noon on Sunday when the accused, a young man, took advantage of the absence of the victim’s family, which had gone to their farmland.

According to reports, after committing the assault, the perpetrator attempted to strangle the woman to death. Her cries for help alerted nearby villagers, who rushed to the scene and rescued her.

The accused was briefly apprehended by the villagers but managed to escape. According to the complaint filed by the victim’s father at the Pipili police station, the accused also threatened severe consequences if the matter was reported to the police.

The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to apprehend the absconding suspect. The incident has sparked outrage in the local community.
