Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area is expected to form over the west-central Bay of Bengal and northwest Bay of Bengal today, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
As per the IMD prediction, the weather system is likely to intensify over the next 48 hours, bringing significant rainfall to various parts of Odisha. The development and intensification of this weather system, combined with an active trough line, are expected to create favourable conditions for the southwest monsoon to advance into Odisha.
Under its impact, several Odisha districts will likely experience heavy downpours till May 30.
Meanwhile, the regional weather office has issued a yellow warning for 15 Odisha districts. These districts under warning include Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, and Nabarangapur are expected to receive downpours, strong gusty winds, and thunderstorms.
Residents are advised to stay prepared for worsening conditions and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. The IMD has urged citizens to remain vigilant and follow the guidelines to stay safe during this period of intense rainfall.
According to IMD sources. significant rainfall has been recorded in various parts of Odisha over the last 24 hours, with Burla in Sambalpur receiving 64.2 mm of rain, followed by Rajanagar in Kendrapara district with 62 mm, Barpali in Bargarh district with 52 mm, and Kolnara in Rayagada district with 49.4 mm.
Other areas that experienced notable rainfall include Kakatpur in Puri district with 43 mm, Pattamundai in Kendrapara district with 37 mm, Paradeep in Jagatsinghpur district with 35.4 mm, Karanjia in Mayurbhanj district with 34 mm, Rayagada with 33.4 mm, and Balikuda in Jagatsinghpur district with 30 mm. On Monday, Rayagada received 47.6 mm of rain from morning to evening, while Paralakhemundi received 28 mm and Koraput received 20.6 mm.
