Bhadrak: A family and locals staged a roadblock and burned tires in front of a private diagnostic centre in Bhadrak district over alleged medical negligence on the part of a diagnostic centre that led to the birth of a stillborn baby in the mother’s womb.
According to reports, Basanti Raut, a resident of Radhanga village under Dolasahi panchayat of Bhadrak district, had undergone an ultrasound at a private diagnostic centre on May 25. The report allegedly stated that her six-month-old foetus was healthy. Basanti’s family had then consulted a gynaecologist in a private nursing home, who reviewed the scan and discharged them.
The following day, Basanti suddenly complained of labour pain. When her condition deteriorated, her husband took her to their doctor, who immediately asked them to shift her to the DHH. To everyone’s surprise, doctors at the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital found that the baby had died in the womb four days prior and showed signs of mummification.
Basanti’s family claimed that the discrepancy in the ultrasound report and the doctor’s statement was a clear case of medical negligence. In protest, they held a dharna on the Bhadrak bypass road to Chandbali with the body of the stillborn baby and demanded justice.
The mother, who is critical, is currently undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital. The family and locals are demanding action against the diagnostic centre for the alleged faulty report.
