Bhubaneswar: The Special POCSO Court-2 in Jajpur has sentenced a man to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 for raping and murdering a minor girl in 2016.
The court pronounced the verdict on the testimony of 35 witnesses.
The convict, Seikh Mohit, a resident of Balasore, was found guilty of brutally raping and killing the minor girl in Panasia area under Jajpur Road police station. The accused had tied the girl’s body with a rope and thrown it near the railway line. Mohit committed the crime when he was running a scrap business in Panasia area.
The Jajpur Road police had investigated the case and arrested the accused. The court has also directed the Legal Services Authority to provide Rs 5 lakh as compensation to the victim’s family.
