Bhubaneswar: In a significant breakthrough, Bhubaneswar Police on Wednesday arrested two members of a vehicle theft gang and recovered ten stolen vehicles from their possession, police said.
Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissioner of Police S Dev Datta Singh has confirmed the arrests and said that the gang is suspected to be involved in at least 15 vehicle theft cases across Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Khurda, and Puri police districts.
“The gang primarily targeted vehicles parked on roadsides. After stealing them, they would remove the number plates and hide the vehicles in forested areas to avoid detection,” Singh stated. He added that interrogation of the arrested duo is underway to trace other members and uncover the full scope of the racket.
The police have already returned the recovered vehicles to their rightful owners, bringing relief to several affected individuals.
This successful operation is part of an ongoing crackdown on property crimes in urban and suburban areas, Singh added.
