Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday issued a formal notification inviting applications for the appointment of Vice Chancellors (VCs) in 13 state-run universities across the state.
The Higher Education Department has initiated the recruitment process to fill long-pending vacancies in premier institutions including Utkal University and Rama Devi Women’s University in Bhubaneswar, Ravenshaw University in Cuttack, Gangadhar Meher University in Sambalpur, and Fakir Mohan University in Balasore, among others.
Several of these VC positions have remained vacant for weeks, prompting growing concern over leadership and administrative continuity in the state’s higher education institutions.
According to the official notification, candidates applying for the posts must possess a minimum of 10 years of academic experience and must not be above 66 years of age as of December 2025.
The move is seen as part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen academic leadership and governance in Odisha’s higher education system.
