Bhubaneswar: Coastal districts of Odisha are bracing for severe heat and sultry weather conditions over the next three days, with a yellow warning issued for 11 districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati, according to the India Meteorological Department.
According to IMD prediction, hot and humid conditions are expected to prevail in the coming days due to a combination of high temperatures and high atmospheric moisture levels. Daytime temperatures are likely to rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next two days, after which no significant change is expected. Additionally, there is a possibility of thundershowers in some parts of the state during this period, which may provide temporary relief from the heat.
Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to protect themselves against heat-related health risks. To minimise the risks, it is recommended to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, especially during peak hours between 12 PM and 4 PM.
Staying hydrated is also crucial. Drinking plenty of water and consuming hydrating fruits like watermelon, cucumber, and oranges can help keep the body cool and refreshed.
Additionally, protecting your skin from the harsh sun is essential. Using sunscreen with SPF 50+, carrying umbrellas, and wearing UV-protective sunglasses can provide effective protection against the sun’s harmful rays.
