Bhubaneswar: The diarrhoeal outbreak in Jajpur district has claimed two more lives today, taking the total death toll to four, confirmed Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Prakash Bal on Thursday.

“As of now, 134 patients are undergoing treatment at the Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital. The deceased are two women, aged 75 and 42, who succumbed to the illness today”, informed the CDMO while talking to the media.

CDMO Bal provided an update on the diarrhoea situation, stating that currently, 134 patients are receiving treatment at Jajpur Headquarters Hospital. Thankfully, the condition of patients at other hospitals, including Jajpur Road, Dharmasala, and Korei, is reported to be stable. Unfortunately, with two more deaths due to diarrhoea, the total death toll in the district rose to four.

According to reports, patients are being treated at various hospitals, including Community Health Centres (CHCs) in Dharmasala, Jajpur Road, and Danagadi, as well as the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Jajpur. Critical cases have been referred to SCB Medical College in Cuttack.

Meanwhile, Director of Public Health Services, Dr. Nilakantha Mishra informed that all patients and sporadic cases in adjacent areas are being promptly treated by Rapid Action Teams (RATs) constituted at the district level.

Two state-level RATs, comprising medical officers, microbiologists, epidemiologists, and officials from the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, have been deployed to the region to support local efforts. These teams are working closely with the Chief District Medical and Public Health Officer in Jajpur.

Specialists from Maharaja Jajati Keshari Medical College and Hospital are managing critical cases, while six medicine specialists from SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack have been assigned to assist with patient care, ensuring comprehensive medical support to those affected.
