Bhubaneswar: The Anasara period, a two-week quarantine period in which the three deities of the Jagannath Temple in Puri are kept under isolation, has entered its second day.

According to reports, during this period, the deities are kept in seclusion, and special rituals are performed. Today, the ‘Oda Luga Lagi’ ritual will be performed, where the Lord is offered special attire.

The Anasara period, which began on the full moon day of Jyestha month, will conclude on the new moon day of Ashadha month. During this time, the Lord is served by the Daitapatis, who perform secret rituals and offer special bhog like pana and fruits.

Meanwhile, devotees are flocking to the Alarnath temple in Brahmagiri as the deities of Lord Jagannath and his siblings are in seclusion following their grand bathing ritual on Deba Snana Purnima on Wednesday. During this 15-day Anasara period, the deities will be unavailable for public viewing, and devotees believe that worshipping Lord Alarnath is equivalent to seeking blessings from Lord Jagannath himself. That’s why the temple has witnessed a surge in devotees, who are seeking blessings and offering prayers.

The Alarnath temple will open its doors to devotees from 6 am onwards, after the morning rituals are completed. The rituals include Mangala Arati, Tadapa Lagi, Abakasha, and Gopal Ballabha, followed by public darshan.

Meanwhile, the Jagannath Temple is observing strict rituals, with the Daitapatis performing secret services to the deities to cure them.

The temple authorities have made arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the rituals and the safety of the devotees.

During Anasara, the deities, Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra and Lord Jagannath, are kept in the ‘Anasara Pindi’ where they are treated with natural herbal medicines and specially prepared oils. The ailing deities are offered only fruits and water and ‘Dasamula’ (herbal) medicines.
