Bhubaneswar: Three family members of former Odisha Chief Minister Hemananda Biswal, along with their driver, sustained critical injuries in a road accident near Handapa Bazaar in Angul district on Sunday afternoon.
The victims—Urmila Biswal (wife of the former CM), Anita Biswal (daughter), and Ambika Biswal (granddaughter)—were en route from Sambalpur to Bhubaneswar in a car bearing registration number OD 23 N 5225. The vehicle was trailing an Innova (OD 05 BZ 4040) carrying senior BJD leaders and former legislators Amar Satapathy and Pravat Tripathy.
According to reports, the driver of the Biswal family’s car has been identified as Sanjay Beura, lost control of the vehicle near Handapa Bazaar and rammed into the Innova ahead. All four occupants of the Biswal vehicle were critically injured in the collision, while the occupants of the Innova escaped unhurt.
Following the incident, Handapa IIC Namita Nayak promptly arrived at the scene and facilitated the immediate transfer of the injured to the Angul District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). An investigation into the cause of the accident has been initiated.
