Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, Maoists brutally murdered three villagers in Peddakorma village, Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, on Tuesday evening.
The victims, identified as Jhingu Modiyam, Soma Modiyam, and Anil Madvi, were strangled to death with ropes.
Two of the victims were relatives of Dinesh Modiyam, a notorious Maoist commander who surrendered a few months ago. Dinesh’s surrender was significant for the police, as it provided valuable information on Maoist strategies.
In addition to the killings, the rebels assaulted seven other villagers, leaving them injured, and abducted over a dozen locals, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
The situation in the village remains tense.
The killing was reportedly led by Maoist commander Vella and his team, in a suspected retaliatory attack against those linked to surrendered Maoists.
A team has been dispatched to the crime scene, but the situation remains tense, and there’s concern for the safety of the abducted villagers.
