Balasore: Bhograi police station IIC Sriballav Sahu has been suspended following allegations of inhuman torture of a youth at the police station. The youth, Kartik Chandra Bhola, was allegedly detained and tortured without any FIR being registered against him.
DGP YB Khurania suspended him for dereliction of duty.
The incident came to light after MP Pratap Sarangi visited the police station and intervened in the matter. Sarangi made a direct video call to Balasore SP, who ordered an immediate investigation into the incident. Additional SP conducted the investigation and found evidence of torture.
The youth’s wife had alleged that her husband was beaten inhumanely with his hands and feet tied for two days. The incident sparked outrage, and MP Sarangi condemned the police actions, demanding strict action against the officials involved.
The SP’s investigation has confirmed that the youth was subjected to torture, and the IIC’s explanation that the handcuffs were used due to a lack of staff has been deemed unacceptable.
