Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast another low-pressure system over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal and Bangladesh coast around June 27. This system is likely to bring widespread heavy rainfall to several parts of Odisha from June 26 to 29.

According to the IMD forecast, the low-pressure system is expected to cause significant rainfall in many areas of the state.  Apart from that, the monsoon is expected to cover the entire country by June 26.

As per the prediction of IMD, rainfall is likely to occur in Sundargarh and Jharsuguda today. Furthermore, heavy rain is expected in Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar on June 21 and 22.

On Thursday, Hirakud recorded 32.6 mm of rainfall. Other areas that received significant rainfall include Sambalpur (19.3 mm), Jharsuguda (17.4 mm), Talcher (16.4 mm), Rourkela (15.5 mm), and Angul (15 mm).

As of June 15, Odisha was facing a 42% rainfall deficit. However, due to good rainfall in the past 4 days, influenced by the low-pressure system, the deficit has been bridged to some extent.

Heavy rainfall has been recorded in Similipal and Bareshani. The Subarnarekha River has crossed the danger mark, indicating a potential flood threat.
