Bhubaneswar: Suspended IAS officer and former Dharmagarh Sub-Collector Dhiman Chakma on Friday moved the Orissa High Court seeking bail after the Vigilance Court rejected his earlier plea.
According to sources, Chakma, currently in judicial custody, is embroiled in a high-profile corruption case involving bribery allegations. Chakma was arrested by the Vigilance department on June 9 for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh.
Also, the Vigilance team recovered an additional Rs 47 lakh in cash during a search of Chakma’s official residence. Chakma was forwarded to the Vigilance Court in Kalahandi.
Following his arrest, Chakma was produced before the Special Vigilance Court in Bhawanipatna, which remanded him to judicial custody after rejecting his bail plea. Now, he has moved the High Court seeking bail.
Now, Chakma’s bail plea will be heard by the High Court, which will determine whether he can be granted bail or not.
