Bhubaneswar: In the Gopalpur beach gangrape case, the Crime Branch will conduct a Test Identification (TI) parade of the six accused lodged in Berhampur jail. The TI parade will be held in the presence of a judicial magistrate, where the victim will identify the accused.
According to reports, the Crime Branch had filed an application before the District and Sessions Judge, Ganjam, seeking permission to conduct the TI parade. The court has granted permission, and the TI parade is scheduled to be held on Friday and Saturday.
The Crime Branch has been investigating the case, and the victim and her male friend have already recorded their statements before the court under Section 183 of the BNSS.
The six accused are currently lodged in Berhampur jail, while four other accused, who are juveniles, are being held in an observation home.
A 9-member team of the Crime Branch, led by an Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), visited the Gopalpur police station for the third consecutive day to investigate the gangrape case. The team held discussions with the Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) and other officials involved in the investigation.
According to sources, the Crime Branch team has been gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses, including locals who rushed to the scene after hearing the victim’s cries for help.
The Crime Branch has seized seven mobile phones so far, with one additional phone seized on the third day of investigation. The team has also taken custody of the First Information Report (FIR) from the Gopalpur police station and registered a new case.
The investigating team is working to gather more evidence and identify the perpetrators involved in the heinous crime.
