Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance Directorate has apprehended Suryakanta Swain, Accountant at the Block Education Office (BEO) in Kujanga, Jagatsinghpur district, for accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.
The accused was caught red-handed while taking the bribe from a teacher for processing and releasing a house building advance of Rs 1,50,000.
The teacher had approached the vigilance authorities after Swain demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 for preparing the bill, despite the house building advance being sanctioned by the competent authority. The vigilance team laid a trap and caught Swain while he was accepting the bribe.
The entire bribe amount of Rs 5,000 has been recovered and seized from Swain’s possession. Simultaneous searches are being conducted at two locations of Swain’s residence to investigate potential Disproportionate Assets (DA).
A case has been registered against Swain under Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No. 16/2025 under Section 7 PC (Amendment) Act, 2018, and investigation is currently underway.
