Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of the Rath Yatra stampede tragedy in Puri, which resulted in the deaths of three devotees and injured several others.
Expressing concern over the incident, the Commission has issued a notice to the Puri District Collector and Superintendent of Police, seeking a detailed report on the incident.
The OSHRC has also instructed the Odisha government, led by Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, to ensure adequate medical treatment for the injured devotees still under medication.
Furthermore, the Commission has advised the state government to take preventive measures to avoid similar incidents during upcoming festivals, including the Bahuda Yatra, Suna Besha, and Niladri Bije of Lord Jagannath and his siblings.
