Malkangiri: A fire broke out at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Malkangiri today, triggering panic among patients and staff. The incident occurred in the Outpatient Department (OPD) of the Ophthalmology Department and was reportedly caused by a short circuit in an air conditioning unit.
Before the Fire Brigade could reach the spot, the hospital’s security personnel and sanitation workers swiftly intervened and successfully extinguished the fire, averting what could have been a major disaster.
According to Additional District Medical Officer (ADMO) Brajabandhu Das, the timely response prevented the flames from spreading to other sections of the hospital. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported.
Fire services arrived shortly after to ensure the area was safe and to assess any residual risk.
Authorities have initiated an internal investigation into the cause of the short circuit and are evaluating the hospital’s electrical safety infrastructure.
