Bhubaneswar: Three elephants were rescued by forest officials in the wee hours of Monday after being swept away by the strong current in the Brahmani River near the Palasahi area under the Mahabirod Forest Range in Dhenkanal district.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Sunday evening when a herd of 40 elephants was crossing the river. However, three elephants got stuck in the river’s midstream while the rest of the herd had crossed. As they tried to cross, they were swept away by the strong current.
After a long struggle, they were safely rescued at dawn and made their way to the Khadagprasad area, with the forest department keeping a close watch on them throughout the night.
