Bhubaneswar: In a swift breakthrough, Chandrasekharpur police arrested two accused involved in a violent robbery incident that took place at a HIG duplex in Sailashree Vihar area under Chandrasekharpur police limits of Bhubaneswar on last Friday (July 4).
Police have recovered the stolen gold ornaments and arrested both the primary accused, Ananta Panda and a receiver of the stolen goods, Chandrakanta Sahoo.
According to a press release issued by the police, the robbery occurred at HIG Duplex-40 located in front of DAV School in Sailashree Vihar under Chandrasekharpur police limits when the victim, Sushma Mishra, was alone at home. Her husband, Durga Madhav Mishra, had left early in the morning around 5:10 AM for his regular golf session. Taking advantage of the situation, Ananta Panda, along with his associate, forcibly entered the house.
They tied the elderly woman with a stole, gagged her, and proceeded to assault her before stealing cash and gold ornaments, including a necklace and a ring she was wearing at the time. After committing the crime, they fled the scene.
The incident came to light when the family driver, Soumya Mallick, alerted the complainant, Sanyog Mishra, who rushed home to find his mother lying injured on the floor. She was immediately taken to KIMS Hospital for treatment, and a complaint was lodged at Chandrasekharpur police station.
During the investigation, based on credible intelligence, police apprehended Ananta Panda near Buddha Park in Niladri Vihar. On interrogation, Ananta confessed to committing the robbery along with Ajay Swain (yet to be arrested) and revealed that the stolen gold was sold to a third party, Chandrakanta Sahoo, for ₹1.95 lakh.
Subsequently, police raided the residence of Chandrakanta Sahoo and recovered the stolen ornaments, including a melted gold piece. Sahoo was also taken into custody and confessed to his role in the transaction.
Both arrested individuals—Ananta Panda (31) and Chandrakanta Sahoo (32), residents of Puruna Basanta village in Jagatsinghpur district—were forwarded to court today. Further investigation is ongoing to trace the remaining accused and any additional leads.
