Bhubaneswar: Four persons, including a woman, were killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes across Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Sambalpur, and Bhadrak districts on Sunday.
In Jajpur district, a 65-year-old farmer lost his life after being struck by lightning while working in his agricultural field in Balabhadrapur village under Jenapur police station limits.
According to reports, fellow farmers and labourers noticed him lying unconscious after the lightning strike and rushed him to the Dharmasala Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead. His body was sent for post-mortem and police have registered a case of unnatural death.
In Sambalpur’s Kuchinda area, another man was killed after being struck by lightning while taking shelter under a tree during the storm.
In Bhadrak district, a young woman died when lightning struck her during a visit to a garden.
The fourth incident was reported from the Kujang area of Jagatsinghpur district, where a farmer was fatally struck by lightning while returning home from his field.
