Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths apprehended a Junior Clerk and his associate in a bribery case today. Sukanta Kumar Singh, Junior Clerk at the Office of the Sub-Registrar, Balipatana, and his associate Mahendra Sahu were caught accepting a bribe of Rs. 2,500 from a complainant. The bribe was part of an overall demand of Rs. 5,000 for handing over a registered trust deed.
The complainant, a functionary of a trust board, had earlier paid Rs. 1,500 to Singh on July 11 and was being asked for the remaining amount. After reporting the matter to the vigilance authorities, a trap was set, and the accused duo was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe.
The entire bribe amount has been recovered and seized from them. Searches are being conducted at Singh’s locations to gather more evidence. A case has been registered at the Bhubaneswar Vigilance police station under Section 7 of the PC Act, 1988.
