Bhubaneswar: The brother of Soumyashree Bisi, the FM College student who set herself afire after being allegedly subjected to mental and sexual harassment by a lecturer of the college, filed a complaint with the Bhogarai police station against four persons for making objectionable posts on social media.
According to the complainant, the posts allegedly targeted his family and hurt their sentiments. He demanded strict action against those responsible.
It is learnt that police have taken the complaint seriously and initiated an investigation into the complaint filed by Soumyashree’s brother.
Notably, Soumyashree attempted to self-immolate on campus on July 12. She suffered 95 per cent burns and was rushed to AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where she succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment on Monday night.
The deceased student’s last rites were performed in her native village in Bhograi in Balasore district on Tuesday. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, and the Higher Education department has suspended the college principal and HOD. Police have also arrested the HOD and the college principal in connection with the incident.
