Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident from Lokapada village under Aul police station limits in Kendrapara district, a young woman was found dead in a rented house on Rajbati Road late Tuesday night. Police recovered her body, reportedly hanging, and have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
The deceased, originally from the Mahanga area of Cuttack district, had been living in Aul for some time and was employed at a private finance company. Her death has taken a disturbing turn, with her family accusing a former colleague of exploitation, harassment, and blackmail, leading to her alleged suicide.
According to a written complaint filed at the Aul police station, the woman had previously worked in Chandbali, where she came into contact with one Ajay Kumar Behera, who reportedly claimed to love her and promised marriage. The family alleges that under this pretext, he took her to several locations, established a physical relationship, and recorded compromising videos, which he later used to blackmail her.
Ajay allegedly continued to harass and demand money from the woman even after she changed jobs and relocated to Aul.
Just a day before her death, she reportedly confided in her family about the mental and emotional distress she had been facing. Though her family confronted Ajay and discussed the matter internally, they hesitated to approach the police due to fear of social stigma.
Around 9:30 PM on the night of the incident, the woman was found hanging in her rented accommodation. Her family believes the emotional trauma and blackmail drove her to take the extreme step. They have urged police to examine her two mobile phones, which they believe may contain crucial evidence, including communication records and videos.
As of now, the Aul police have not issued an official statement. The investigation is ongoing, with the woman’s body sent for postmortem. Her family continues to press for a thorough probe and strict action against the accused.
