Bhubaneswar: A police sub-inspector at the Khandagiri police station has been suspended for negligence in conducting an investigation into an NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act) case.
Sub-Inspector Debi Prasad Behura faced the action after Police Commissioner Suresh Devadatta Singh suspended him for dereliction of duty and poor performance in conducting the investigation.
On April 11, a notorious brown sugar peddler, Sheikh Jamshed, was arrested following an encounter at Khandagiri in Bhubaneswar.
A case under the NDPS Act was registered against him, and the sub-inspector was tasked with the investigation and instructed to submit a charge sheet within 60 days. However, the sub-inspector failed to submit the charge sheet within the stipulated period, which led to the accused obtaining bail from the court.
