Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths arrested Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Nityananda Nayak of Keonjhar’s KL Division for possessing disproportionate assets. Following a thorough investigation and searches conducted over two days, the vigilance team uncovered substantial evidence of corruption and amassed wealth beyond his known sources of income.
During the searches, the team discovered a multi-storeyed building with a total area of 9,000 square feet in Angul, a farmhouse in Chhendipada, Angul, 115 valuable plots, 200 grams of gold, cash amounting to Rs 10.25 lakhs, deposits worth over Rs 50.38 lakhs, and two four-wheelers.
The farmhouse, spread over 1.5 acres, features an outhouse, pond, borewells, and extensive plantations.
Notably, Nayak attempted to conceal the details of this farmhouse from the vigilance officials. However, a diary detailing payments and expenditures related to the farmhouse’s construction was found during a search at his Keonjhar residence.
A case has been registered against Nayak under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and he will be forwarded to the Special Judge, Vigilance, Keonjhar court.
The investigation is underway, and further details are expected to emerge as the case progresses.
