Bhubaneswar: The Special POCSO Court in Cuttack on Tuesday sentenced Kailash Sunar to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a minor girl in 2024.
The convict, a resident of the Baranga police station area, was also fined Rs 50,000.
According to an official press release, the crime occurred on November 20, 2024, when Sunar lured the victim to a brick kiln in Naranpur with chocolate and assaulted her. He threatened her to remain silent, but the minor confided in her parents.
Following a complaint by the girl’s father, Barang police arrested Sunar within 24 hours. The victim was promptly taken for medical examination at Shishu Bhawan and SCB Medical College, Cuttack.
Under the stringent provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the police conducted a swift investigation and filed a charge sheet within 15 days. The court’s verdict underscores its commitment to delivering justice in cases of crimes against minors.
