Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, an elderly man died after attempting self-immolation at Badhiausta village under Pattapur police limits in Ganjam district on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Pitabasa Acharya, a resident of the same village.
According to reports, Acharya allegedly poured kerosene on himself and set himself ablaze. Locals present at the spot immediately rescued him and rushed him to the Adapada Community Health Centre (CHC), where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
A purported suicide note recovered from the scene reads, “I do not want to live; please take care of my wife.”
On being informed, police reached the spot and launched an investigation into the incident.
