Bhubaneswar: A Junior Revenue Assistant (JRA) in the office of the Sub-Collector, Bhubaneswar, has been apprehended by the Odisha Vigilance for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 30,000 from a complainant. The accused, Sourav Tripathy, was caught red-handed while taking the bribe amount.
According to vigilance, the complainant had approached Tripathy for processing a certificate case that had been pending for a long time. Despite repeated requests, Tripathy demanded a bribe of Rs. 30,000 to initiate the file. The complainant reported the matter to the Vigilance authorities, who laid a trap and nabbed Tripathy while he was accepting the bribe.
The entire tainted bribe money has been recovered from Tripathy’s possession and seized. Simultaneous searches are being conducted at two locations of Tripathy’s residence to investigate potential disproportionate assets. A case has been registered against Tripathy under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and the investigation is currently underway.
