Bhubaneswar: The low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression and is likely to move northwestwards. As a result, Odisha is likely to experience heavy rainfall today, according to the prediction of the India Meteorological Department.

The regional weather department has predicted that the state will experience heavy rainfall for the next three days, with the possibility of rain continuing till July 28.

Going by the IMD forecast, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh may experience heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms, with wind speeds reaching up to 30-40 kmph on Saturday. These districts have been put under an orange alert. Apart from that, the regional weather office has issued a red alert for Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts. These two districts are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall today.

Meanwhile, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has also issued a warning, directing the district administrations to be prepared with machinery and alert systems. The SRC has asked the district collectors to immediately inform the state emergency operations centre in case of any adverse situation.

The SRC has also advised fishermen not to venture into the sea from July 25 to 28 due to rough sea conditions.
