Bhubaneswar: The water level in the Subarnarekha River has receded to 9.80 meters, which is below the danger mark. The water level is expected to further decrease in the afternoon and may even fall below the warning mark, informed Chandrasekhar Padhi, Chief Engineer of the Water Resources Department.

“It will take some time for the water to drain out. The water level in the Baitarani River at Akhuapada is also below the danger mark, and the flood situation has improved in Bhadrak and Jajpur districts. Water is being slowly drained from the low-lying areas”, said Padhi.

According to Padhi, in Balasore district, four blocks – Jaleswar, Bhograi, Basta, and Baliapal – are affected by floodwaters. Baliapal and Bhograi are the most affected areas in the recent flood situation in Balasore district. A senior engineer has been stationed in Balasore to monitor the flood situation.

“Currently, the flood risk is minimal, and our primary challenge is to drain out the accumulated water from the low-lying areas so that life can return to normalcy as soon as possible”, stated Padhi, adding that the water level of Brahmani at Jenapur is below the danger mark. The situation is being closely monitored, and efforts are being made to ensure the safety of people in the affected areas.

“Water had inundated Dhamnagar and Tihidi in Bhadrak district and Dashrathpur in Jajpur district. However, after the water level at Akhuapada fell below the danger mark, the situation has gradually improved”, he added.
