6 Arrested For Looting Retired Doctor In Kendrapara While Posing As Vigilance Cops

Bhubaneswar: In a shocking case of impersonation and theft, Kendrapara police on Wednesday arrested six individuals — including a 20-year-old engineering student — for looting the house of a retired doctor by posing as vigilance officials.

The incident took place on July 10 at Oldhi village under Derabish police station limits. The accused allegedly entered the residence of 80-year-old Dr Jalil Ahmad Khan, pretending to be vigilance officers conducting a raid to assess assets allegedly disproportionate to his known sources of income.

According to police, the gang carried out a mock search operation, during which they looted ₹1.5 lakh in cash and around 500 grams of gold ornaments. Before leaving, they warned Dr Khan to report to the district vigilance office in Kendrapara with proof of income and asset legitimacy — a tactic aimed at making the operation appear official.

Dr Khan, a respected figure in the area, had retired two decades ago from a government medical college in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. Following retirement, he returned to his native village to continue serving the local community.

A special squad formed to investigate the case cracked it using call detail record (CDR) analysis and CCTV footage from the vicinity.

The arrested individuals have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 310 (dacoity) and Section 333 (house trespass). They were produced before a local court, which rejected their bail applications, and subsequently remanded them to judicial custody.
