Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will establish 38 model mandis (market yards) across the state by next year, Cooperation Minister Pradeep Bal Samant announced.
These upgraded market facilities will be developed in all 30 districts, with larger districts getting two mandis based on need and agricultural activity.
Minister Bal Samant stated that each model mandi will be equipped with key amenities, including drinking water, clean toilets, restrooms, electricity, retail shops, parking spaces, and tiffin centers operated by Self-Help Group (SHG) women, aiming to enhance both farmer convenience and local employment.
A detailed blueprint of the project has already been submitted to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi for review. The initiative is part of the government’s broader push to modernize agricultural infrastructure and improve market access for farmers across Odisha.
