Sambalpur: In a major crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, Burla police have arrested four persons and seized a large quantity of contraband pharmaceutical drugs, including 840 bottles of Wincerex cough syrup and 1,000 Pentazocine injections.
The case has been registered in Burla police station on Friday, under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act).
According to police sources, the seized items are suspected to have been part of a larger peddling network operating in and around Burla region. WINCEREX cough syrup and Pentazocine injections are often misused as narcotic substances, especially among youth.
The accused have been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway to trace the source of supply and potential distribution network. Police are also probing whether the gang has links to similar illegal drug operations in the region.
The operation marks another step in Sambalpur police’s ongoing efforts to curb the illegal drug trade and crack down on pharmaceutical substance abuse in the district.
