Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) has formed a fact-finding committee to investigate the death of a young woman who set herself on fire in Pattamundai of Kendrapara district. The committee will visit the incident site and prepare a report.
The OPCC’s fact-finding committee will be led by PCC Vice President Sasmita Behera and includes other prominent members. The committee’s report is expected to shed light on the incident and the alleged police inaction.
A 19-year-old woman, an undergraduate student, allegedly immolated herself after her former boyfriend threatened to upload her intimate photographs on social media. The woman’s father claimed that the police refused to accept their FIR six months ago, instead advising them to block the ex-boyfriend’s phone number.
Kendrapara Superintendent of Police Siddharth Kataria has assured a personal probe into the allegations. The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
