Bhubaneswar: In a major crackdown on illegal arms trade, Tarasingi police on Saturday arrested two persons for allegedly trafficking firearms along the Rudhapadar-Daspalla road in Ganjam district.
The accused have been identified as Bibhuti Bhusan Rath, a resident of Rudhapadar and his associate Aju Bisoyi of Poibadi in Nayagarh district.
According to police, the duo had procured firearms from another state and was actively involved in smuggling and selling them across the region, particularly in Ganjam district.
“During routine patrolling on the Rudhapadar-Daspalla stretch, our team intercepted the suspects. A search led to the recovery of one mouzer, one country-made pistol, two live rounds of 7.6 mm ammunition, a motorcycle, and two mobile phones,” said Bhanjanagar SDPO Deepak Kumar Mishra while briefing the media.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and network behind the arms trafficking.
