Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted the formation of a low-pressure area over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal (BoB) around August 13, 2025. In response, the IMD has issued several weather warnings across Odisha for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds ranging between 30-40 km/h.
On August 11, a yellow alert has been issued for the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Nabarangpur.
The yellow warnings continue on August 12, covering additional districts including Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, among others.
An orange warning — indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall — has been issued for August 13 in Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Koraput, with yellow alerts in surrounding districts.
Similar orange and yellow warnings are expected to persist across various parts of Odisha from August 14 to 16.
The IMD has also advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off the south Odisha coasts during August 13-14. Residents are urged to stay updated and exercise caution during this period.
