Bhubaneswar: In a disturbing incident, a Class VIII student was found with severe burn injuries on a football field in the Padampur area in Bargarh district, on Monday morning.
According to preliminary reports, the girl is suspected to have attempted self-immolation by dousing herself with petrol at Phiringmala village under the Gaisilet police limits.
The girl had come to her uncle’s village for the holidays and was reportedly upset after a classmate said something hurtful to her. Locals rescued her in a half-charred state in the morning and rushed her to the District Headquarters Hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment in critical condition.
Upon being received, the police reached the spot, and an investigation has been initiated to probe the incident from all angles. Besides, police are examining all possible reasons behind the girl’s actions, including the alleged hurtful comment made by her classmate.
A case has been registered, and police are working to determine the exact circumstances leading to the incident.
