Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today highlighted the government’s efforts to improve the state’s healthcare infrastructure. He announced that the government is working to provide modern medical facilities in various hospitals across the state.

While addressing the state-level Independence Day celebration, he revealed that four new government medical colleges will be opened in Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, and Nabarangpur, taking the total number of government medical colleges in the state to 16. Additionally, there are plans to upgrade Berhampur MKCG Medical College to AIIMS standards, which will further enhance the state’s healthcare landscape.

To support patients and their relatives, the state government will provide affordable accommodation near the three largest medical colleges and hospitals. Around 2,250 beds will be made available for this purpose.

The Chief Minister emphasised that health is a fundamental right and that the government has implemented schemes like Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana and Ayushman Vayo Vandana Yojana to protect this right. Under these schemes, over 82% of the state’s population has been covered, which is the highest percentage in the country. So far, around Rs. 936 crores have been provided to 4 lakh beneficiaries under these schemes.
