Sundargarh: In a major crackdown on illegal gambling, the Dharuadihi police on Saturday arrested 14 persons involved in gambling activities near the football ground located behind the Dharuadihi police station in Sundargarh district.

Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a late-night raid at the venue, which coincided with an ongoing local fair. The operation led to the arrest of 14 accused and the seizure of a significant cache of assets, including Rs 1, 01,340 in cash, 20 cars, 17 motorcycles, and 20 mobile phones.

According to police, the gambling den was operating on a large scale and is believed to have been part of an annual illegal activity conducted during the fair. Police suspect the involvement of more individuals and are currently investigating the broader network behind the operation.

Further investigation is underway.
