Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a 60-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband at Dhepaguda village under Jharigaon block of Nabarangpur district late Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Pade Santa (60).

According to reports, her husband Shiu Santa (70) had been assaulting her repeatedly over the years without any apparent reason. Despite villagers holding a meeting to resolve the matter, no change was noticed in his behaviour. Last month, Shiu allegedly attacked Pade, leaving her with a broken leg.

On Sunday evening, he once again beat her, but neighbor Tapan Santa intervened and managed to calm the situation. However, later that night, Shiu resumed the assault, which led to Pade’s death.

Following the incident, Sanya Santa, the deceased’s sister, lodged a complaint with the Jharigaon police.

Acting on the report, police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.
