Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) observed an 8-hour bandh at Salipur today from 6 am to 2 pm in protest against the state government’s decision to exclude Salipur from the list of notified area council (NACs).
According to reports, the demand for NAC status has sparked intense politics in the region, with 12 other areas already being notified. The exclusion of Salipur has sparked widespread resentment, leading to this shutdown.
MLA Prasant Behera led the protest, blocking the Cuttack-Chandbali highway at Kuanpal Square. Thousand of protesters, including party workers and locals, have taken to the streets, demanding NAC status for Salipur.
The bandh has brought the area to a standstill, with complete shutdown of shops, markets, and transport. Many schools and colleges have also been closed. The situation remained tense as the protesters are determined to press their demand.
