Bhubaneswar: As many as 12 persons, including children and women, sustained injuries after a stray dog suspected of having rabies went on a biting spree in three villages under Dharakote police limits in Ganjam district on Wednesday evening.

The incident occurred in Kusharaba, Bariguda, and Lakshmipur villages, leaving residents in a state of panic.

The dog’s attack was relentless and indiscriminate, with the animal biting anyone in its path. Panic gripped the villagers as the dog roamed the streets, targeting residents of all ages. However, the situation was brought under control when locals rallied together and managed to chase the dog away, preventing further attacks.

The injured were rushed to Aska Hospital, where they were administered anti-rabies vaccines as a precautionary measure. Fortunately, none of the injuries are reported to be serious.

The incident has prompted the district administration to take action, with police and veterinary officials working to track down the dog and monitor the risk of further infection.

Residents are demanding urgent measures to control the stray dog population and prevent similar incidents in the future.
