Bhubaneswar: Officials from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized marijuana valued at Rs 4 crore on Saturday from a couple arriving from Bangkok at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA), Bhubaneswar.
The male (35) and the female (32), both residents of Punjab, were detained following the interception. The contraband was concealed in their luggage and discovered during routine customs checks, acting on prior intelligence inputs.
According to reports, the narcotics were being smuggled from Bangkok to Bhubaneswar. Both persons are currently under interrogation to determine the origin of the consignment and to identify the wider smuggling network involved.
The DRI continues to intensify its crackdown on drug trafficking through major airports across the country.
