Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha today.
According to the reports, the regional weather office has issued orange alerts to the districts of Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur where heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected. Other districts, including Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Cuttack, may experience heavy rainfall in some areas.
The orange alert is also extended to Kandhamal and Gajapati on August 26, with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall anticipated. Additionally, Ganjam, Rayagada, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar are expected to experience heavy rainfall.
According to forecasts, significant rainfall is likely to occur in different areas of South Odisha and West Odisha on August 27 and 28.
Notably, continuous rainfall has led to rise of Baitarini River. The water level of the Baitarani River has surpassed the danger mark at Akhuapada by Sunday evening, 6 pm. The danger mark at this location is 80.33 meters, but the water level has risen to 80.55 meters. The river’s water level has also crossed the danger mark at Anandpur in Keonjhar district.
