Bhubaneswar: Tension ran high at Jagatsinghpur Sadar area after a 58-year-old woman died allegedly due to oxygen deficiency while being shifted to Cuttack from Jagatsinghpur.
According to reports, the patient identified as Kamala Panda of Brahmnakhanda village was being shifted to Cuttack for better healthcare services in a private ambulance named Maa Kutamchandi, but unfortunately, the vehicle did not have oxygen.
Panda experienced severe chest pain and was initially admitted to Jagatsinghpur District Headquarters Hospital. As her condition deteriorated, she was referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. However, the private ambulance lacked oxygen, and the staff merely placed an oxygen mask on the patient’s face, as the cylinder was empty, allegedly leading to her death.
Following Panda’s death, her family members and locals vandalized the ambulance and handed it over to the Jagatsinghpur police station. However, ambulance driver managed to flee the scene after the incident.
Meanwhile, police have taken custody of the ambulance and launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident and fix responsibility.
