Berhampur: Ragging allegations have once again rocked MKCG Medical College and Hospital, after second-year MBBS students accused seven seniors of harassment inside the hostels.
According to reports, in their complaint, the juniors alleged that the seniors forced them to stand for hours under the guise of a general body meeting. When some objected, they were made to kneel as punishment. On August 18, the accused seniors reportedly subjected the juniors to ragging, and the next day ordered them to attend another meeting. When the juniors refused, the seniors allegedly entered their hostel, hurled abuses, and created a ruckus by dancing in an inebriated state to loud music.
The matter surfaced after the aggrieved students filed a complaint with the National Medical Commission (NMC). Following this, the college Dean received a letter from the NMC seeking a formal response. Sources said the college’s Anti-Ragging Cell will convene tomorrow to examine the allegations and recommend action.
This is not the first time MKCG MCH has come under the scanner for ragging. A March 2024 report by the Society Against Violence in Education (SAVE) revealed the institution topped a list of 12 medical colleges with the highest number of ragging complaints. Between 2022 and 2024, as many as 25 cases from the college were reported to the UGC’s National Anti-Ragging Helpline.
