Bhubaneswar: In a significant breakthrough, the Forest department sleuths have apprehended a key accused in the elephant poaching and illegal trading of elephant tusks case linked to Similipal National Park.
The accused 28-year-old Jogeswar Dehuri hails from Thakurgoda under Jashipur police station in Mayurbhanj district.
According to information provided by Similipal Deputy Director Samrat Gauda, the accused Dehuri was arrested after evading capture for 18 months despite several attempts by authorities to apprehend him. A non-bailable warrant (NBW) had been issued against him due to the case’s sensitivity.
With this arrest, the total number of accused persons apprehended in the case has risen to 22. However, one accused individual remains at large. Following his arrest, Dehuri’s bail petition was rejected, and he has been sent to judicial custody.
