Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will abstain from voting in the upcoming Vice President polls scheduled to be held tomorrow.
This decision aligns with the party’s strategy to maintain equidistance from both the BJP-led NDA and the Opposition’s INDIA bloc.
BJD’s Rajya Sabha MP Sasmit Patra informed about this decision today, stating that the party will maintain equidistance from both the NDA and the INDIA bloc. Therefore, party president Naveen Patnaik has taken this decision.
It is learnt that BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik chaired a meeting of the party’s political affairs committee, where most leaders suggested abstaining from the vote. Some leaders reportedly expressed concerns that supporting the NDA candidate could send the wrong message, while others felt that backing an opposition candidate might be perceived as aligning with the Congress-led bloc.
